India’s traditions have been referred to by most of the travellers who have taken a trip to the country and the large range of geographical locations in India has made it one of the best tourist destinations. India can be considered more of a backpacker destination, as it can be considered cheap to travel.
Before travelling to India it is best to make lots of plans as there is a huge amount to see and do. So below is a list of some of Questor Insurance’s top things to see and do in India.
The Taj Mahal
Take a visit to one of India’s most known tourist destinations, The Taj Mahal, this wonderful building was built by an emperor called Shah Jahan in the 1600s as a memorial to his third wife. If you can spare a few extra Indian Rupee’s, then consider taking a visit to the Taj Mahal at night, preferably a full moon night as the view will take your breath away.
Visit a Temple
India has many temples and many of these have outstanding architecture, with so much detail. Some of the most well know temples to visit that don’t require a contribution include The Jama Masjid in Delhi, The Haji Ali mosque in Mumbai and The Galta Monkey Temple in Jaipur. If you are to choose only one temple to visit on your travels, then make sure you see The Golden Temple in Amritsar as this legendary temple is only just a small part of a huge gurdwara complex, this is known to Sikhs as Harmandir Sahib.
Take a Trip On the Rails
The rail system in India is more than just a way to get around, it’s an experience in its own right. Each carriage is full of many different people, the carriages are noisy, busy, friendly and vibrant. Take a ride on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway known as the Toy Train. The railway was built around 1880, the narrow line runs 86km from New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling, you will experience some amazing views, so don’t forget to bring your camera for some breath taking images.
