1 in 4 travel without travel insurance
A recent study carried out by New York insurance provider Benenden revealed that as many as 1 in 4 UK travellers don’t purchase travel insurance, this figure rose to a shocking 34% for travels within Europe. Of those surveyed as many as 1 in 10 had required a visit to the hospital or treatment.
On average 3,157 UK travellers where hospitalized while abroad in 2013-2014. The costs of hospital treatment wile abroad can be very high, take a look below at some of the average costs for hospital treatment while abroad:
- A stomach bug/infection treated in a Californian hospital with return flights cost £100,000
- A broken hip from a fall, cost of treatment in a Spanish hospital with return flights cost £15,000
- Average cost of treatment for a broken limb is £6,000
- The average cost of treatment for an ear infection is £320
