Supplementary Liability Insurance
When travelling outside of Europe not all countries have mandatory third party liability
insurance leaving hirers exposed should they be involved in an acident involving
a third party where the hirer is responsible for bodily injury or property damage.
Some countries such as the USA, where each individual state has its own legislation,
has mandatory third party insurance but it is set at very low limit as little as
$15,000.
In both these examples, Hirers are exposed to damages imposed by local courts if
the are held liable for damage to third party property or in a worst case screnario
where a person suffers a serious injury. In such cases damages can be very
high.
In these countries car rental companies may make arrangements to provide local third
party liability insurance, which may be called super CDW or top-up insurance, more
likely they will charge the hirer to cover the risk described above.
Questor has designed its product so that when it's clients hire vehicles outside
of Europe, there is the option to include Supplementary Liability Insurance
(SLI) when purchasing car hire insurance.
This extension provides up to $1M of cover in excess of the amount provided on a
mandatory basis. If no cover is provided Questor's SLI will cover all losses
up to the $1M limit. By purchasing the cover from Questor, hirers can be confident
of getting the right cover at the best possible price.
If you are in any doubt about this aspect of the cover provided by your car rental
company, you should ask them directly whether the car rental package includes third
party liability and at what level. If no cover is provided or the limit is
less than $500,000 you should consider purchasing Questor's 'Worldwide
